Choosing your baby’s name is quite possibly one of the most challenging decisions you have to make, especially if you place importance on the meaning of the name. I’ve always thought that the meaning of a name is more important than the sound of the name, though I also love less common names that aren’t over-used. I can love a name when I hear it for the first time, but if it doesn’t have a beautiful, positive meaning it gets thrown out the door. So, here’s a list of names that both sound beautiful and have really great meaning attached.

Rina
This sweet name has more than one origin, including Hebrew and Japanese. It’s Hebrew meaning is “shout or song of joy“, while it could mean “jasmine”, “village”, “vegetables” or “greens” depending on the characters used. Rina also has origins in Sanskrit, Russian, Italian, and German from the names Caterina, Katharina and Ekaterina meaning “pure” or “clean”. Personally, I just use the Hebrew meaning.

Reyne
Reyne could be a variant of the French name Reine meaning “queen“, or a feminized version of the Germanic name Reinhard meaning “brave counsel“.

Serenity
This is one of my favorites. While I’ve heard some people say it sounds trashy, I personally think it’s really pretty and it’s well known that it means “calm“.

Eve
With Hebrew origins, Eve means “life/living one“.

Sefina
I love this name. Funnily enough, I first heard it in the movie Dungeons and Dragons, the main villain being named Sefina. However, though I may have gotten it from a villain in a movie, it means “God will give” and comes from the name Josephina which means “Jehovah increases”.

Yvonne
This classic name is of French origin and means “yew tree“. That may seem like a really boring, insignificant meaning, however in some cultures the yew tree symbolizes rebirth and longevity making Yvonne a name that carries strength.

Analie
Drawing from Anna and Analise, Analie is a beautiful simplistic name that in short means “divine blessing“. It’s etymology relates to grace and favor and the general theme conveys beauty, elegance and favor.

Meira
I love that Meira sounds similar to the classic name Mary, but also has a uniqueness about it. On top of it’s beautiful uniquity it means “light“, coming from the Hebrew word ma’or which signifies light and luminescence.

Selah
Some people think you pronounce Selah “seelah” and some say “saylah”. Personally, as a name I’d say “saylah”. This name has deep significant in the Christian faith, having a Hebrew origin and being used in the book of Psalms. It’s meaning is “rock” and it’s based in the idea of strength and steadfastness. In the book of Psalms it was used to signify a pause used to reflect on what was read.

Giana
Giana comes from the name Giovanna and has it’s roots in Italy. It symbolizes God’s grace, ultimately meaning “God is gracious“.

Kaia
Kaia is a Scandinavian name meaning “pure“. What better meaning for a name to carry?
